RN (Registered Nurse) Coordinator Transfusion & Oncology position in Poughkeepsie, NY at Vassar Brothers Medical Center 
Full time Monday - Friday 40 hours per week 8:30am-5:00pm.
Summary:
This role oversees the daily clinical operations of the chemotherapy infusion suite, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe patient care. The position serves as a liaison between staff, physicians, and administration, focusing on meeting the medical and psychosocial needs of oncology/hematology patients. The ideal candidate will be a strong and compassionate leader who fosters a culture of teamwork, empathy, and excellence in patient care while supporting and developing their team.
Key Responsibilities: 
Leadership and Supervision: 
  • Demonstrate strong, compassionate leadership by fostering a supportive and empathetic work environment.
  • Inspire and motivate staff through effective communication, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to their professional growth and well-being.
  • Supervise and motivate clinical staff to ensure efficient, high-quality care.
  • Hire, evaluate, and manage staff performance, including development and disciplinary actions.
  • Organize and prioritize clinical activities within the infusion suite.
Clinical Operations: 
  • Ensures delivery of care related it infusion systems including programming, troubleshooting, maintenance per manufacture and set guidelines to ensure safe delivery of care to patients requiring continuous chemotherapy infusion. 
  • Collaborate with pharmacy.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining accurate chemotherapy order entry programs and protocols.
Quality and Compliance: 
  • Foster a safe and organized work environment that supports effective clinical practices.
  • Promote and lead performance improvement initiatives, gathering and analyzing data to drive outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with billing and coding regulations (CPT, ICD-9/ICD-10, HCPS) and audit daily charges.
Nursing Practice: 
  • Adhere to established nursing standards, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, chemotherapy, and blood products per hospital policies and national standards.
  • Monitor patient labs and address incoming messages, coordinating with necessary personnel to resolve issues.
Patient and Family Education: 
  • Assess patient and family learning needs and provide appropriate education.
  • Plan, implement, and document effective teaching strategies to ensure understanding.
Professional Responsibilities: 
  • Cultivate a culture of compassion and teamwork, modeling behaviors that promote respect and understanding among staff, patients, and families.
  • Maintain and update personal and staff competencies and educational records.
  • Participate in professional development, including attending staff development programs and relevant committees.
  • Stay current with ONS standards and complete High Reliability Organization (HRO) training within six months of hire.
Qualifications: 
Required: 
  • Active NY RN license.
  • Associate degree or diploma in nursing (BSN strongly preferred).
  • At least five years of oncology experience.
  • OCN certification.
  • Knowledge of ONS standards and high-reliability practices.
  • Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Certification.
  •  
Desired: 
  • Proficiency in IV therapy and central line management.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10, billing, and coding procedures.
  • Experience with budget monitoring.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
