Description

Summary:
Responsible for provision and administration of specific physical therapy treatments only under the direct supervision of the staff Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapy Aide as directed and supervised by the staff Physical Therapist, assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The Physical Therapy Aide participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Performs clerical duties, assists with posting of patient charges in the computer order entry system or on hardcopy invoice system. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety, and fire safety programs.
 
1. Responsible for providing specific treatment only as directed by the staff Physical
Therapist. Adheres to standards of physical medicine practice for neonate, pediatric,
adolescent, geriatric patients and the general patient population.
2. Ability to monitor vital signs, maintains adequate knowledge base regarding
cardiovascular and respiratory precautions for the patient undergoing physical medicine.

4. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety
and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
5. Maintains patient medical record forms, evaluations, educational handout distribution
material, assists in record keeping of patient files, invoicing, claims billing.
6. Communicates any changes in condition to staff Physical Therapist, nursing and other
hospital personnel, as appropriate.
7. Orders, stocks, maintains accurate records of adaptive equipment.
8. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses.

9. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department.

11. Transports patients according to scheduled appointment time, maintains compliance
with safety policies during transport at all times.
12. Prepares and cleans treatment area for patient use at all times. Performs final cleaning at close of department, in preparation for first morning patient.
13. Records treatment/service revisions in accordance with departmental policy.
14. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful
situations.
15. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other
departments.
16. Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and
performance improvement activities.
17. Participates in educational staff performance improvement in services. Assists with
orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members, participates in
guidance and educational programs.
18. Responsible for assuring that licensed staff Physical Therapist reviews and counter
signs aide’s documentation.
19. Participates in infection control, departmental equipment training and organizational
safety and fire safety programs.
20. Uses the principles of AIDET in every customer encounter
21. Completes other duties as assigned and required.
 
Requirements:
· High School graduate or GED certificate.
· Current BCLS certification.
· Recommended: minimum of one year experience as Physical Therapy Aide.
Language Skills:
· Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
· Additional languages preferred.
· Strong written and verbal skills.
Skills:
· Basic computer knowledge.
· Basic awareness of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy, and physiology.
· Basic knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance, and repairs of same.
