Description

SUMMARY
1.  Observes and evaluates treatment affect.  Recommends change to physician, if needed.
2.  Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments, as per policy.  This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients, and the general patient population.
3.  Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
4.  Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
5.  Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate.
6.  Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency of occupational therapy modalities.
7.  Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.  Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
8.  Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.  Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
9. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
10. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administrative team.
11. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
12. Maintains records pertinent to the personnel and operation of the department. 
13. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
14. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
15. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
16. Meets current documentation standards and policies.
17. Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
18. Participates in infection control, departmental equipment training and organizational safety and fire safety programs.
19. Uses the principles of AIDET in every customer encounter
20. Completes other duties as assigned and required.
 
Requirements:
             Current registration with the American Occupational Therapy Association.
             Graduate from an approved school of Occupational Therapy.
             Three (3) or more years of previous experience in all aspects of occupational therapy.
             Current BCLS certification.
             Current License in the State of Connecticut.
Skills:
             Basic computer knowledge.
             Knowledge of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy, and physiology.
             Knowledge of physical and occupational therapy machine operation, maintenance, and repairs of same.
