Summary:
Performs registration, order entry and reception functions for Laboratory. Obtains appropriate information regarding patient demographics, insurance coverage and obtains necessary patient signatures on authorizations and waivers of non-coverage, if appropriate. Accepts phone orders and requests follow-up written physician order.
Responsibilities:
1. Greets patients promptly in a friendly manner, assists patients with special needs and provides necessary information & always respects confidentiality.
2. Accurately identifies patient, performs accurate and complete registration & obtains necessary consents & signatures.
3. Obtains all required information for billing, enters correct diagnosis code(s). Enters information and follows registration protocols as needed to insure accurate and timely billing.
4. Orders tests correctly in computer system, prints requisition and verifies orders.
5. Communicates well with other staff members to insure excellent customer service and appropriate follow-up.
6. Answers phone promptly and appropriately.
7. Accurately labels and receives specimens into laboratory LIS system & delivers to appropriate section.
8. Acts as a customer service representative for the laboratory including but not limited to: faxing, verbal result reporting, add-ons, questions etc.
9. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT
Other Information:
Required: High School Diploma. Minimum of 1 year experience plus customer service experience. CT Driver's License for travel to offsite locations.
Data entry required.
Desired: Medical terminology, ICD-9 coding, medical office/hospital experience.
