Summary:
To provide direct and indirect nursing care to a patient or a group of patients.
Responsibilities:
1. Completes the Preoperative assessment of the patient providing a clear picture of his/her status. Documents findings on the patient memorandum.
2. Follows the 5 Rights of Medication Administration, verbalizing to anesthesia, CST, RN, PA and Surgeons medication being dispensed onto the sterile field.
3. Assesses patients for potential safety risks upon admission to include consent and site verification protocol.
4. Assesses learning needs of patient/family/significant other prior to surgery, answer any questions and or concerns to decrease stressors.
5. Applies the 5 rights of delegation. Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including appropriate delegation of tasks.
6. Promotes a positive work environment through personal example and teamwork.
7. Assesses patient's skin condition preoperatively and post operatively documenting any change in condition prior to transfer. Institutes protocols per Norwalk Hospital policies based on assessment. Skin Care
8. Adheres to Nursing Standards of Practice to include assessment, care planning, interventions and evaluation of the plan of care.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
10. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Education: ASSOCIATE'S LVL DGRE
Other Information:
Required: RN License to practice in the State of Connecticut; Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR); Trauma hours, as per unit standards; ACLS,
Working Conditions:
