Description

Summary:

This position is essential for realizing the vision and strategic goals of the Nuvance Health under the direction of Vice President of Revenue Integrity. Provides strategic planning and leadership for systemwide Acute Hospital and Ancillary Coding. Ensures that coding practices meet quality and regulatory requirements and promotes adherence to all governmental and commercial payer regulations.

Responsibilities:

1. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of Acute Hospital (Inpatient, outpatient, Ed) and Ancillary Coding supporting revenue cycle initiatives in compliance with CMS and third-party payers.

2. Provide strategic direction to maintain coding programs aligned with Nuvance Health's documentation and coding accuracy objectives working in collaboration with Clinical Documentation Improvement colleagues.

3. Drive process improvements by analyzing metrics and workflows to eliminate redundancies and identify opportunities of automation, consolidations, and cross training, enhancing middle revenue cycle processes.

4. Develop and maintain productivity and quality standards and implement policies to ensure efficient and consistent operations with regulatory compliance.

5. Aid in denial prevention through root cause analyses, and stakeholder collaboration.

6. Regularly review case mix index to identify coding improvement opportunities.

7. participate in hospital committees for quality improvement and collaborate with physician champions to improve timely and accurate documentation.

8. Mentor and motivate staff to build a competent team while enhancing their knowledge providing internal and external education resources.

9. Demonstrate leadership in problem-solving and decision-making.

10. Oversee yearly external audits and implement improvement plans.

11. Manage the annual budget for staffing, operations, IT, and equipment needs.

12. Responsible for vendor contracts and Vendor management

13. Perform additional duties as needed.

Education Skills Experience
· A master’s degree in a healthcare-related field is required.
· 10 years+ experience in Acute Hospital coding management is required.
· CCS certification is required, any other outpatient certification in addition to CCS is preferred
· Working knowledge of Acute Hospital Coding is preferred.
· Proficiency in various coding software applications and systems for data retrieval related to documentation and coding.
· Comprehensive knowledge of official coding guidelines, Medicare rules and regulations, ICD-10, HCPCS, E/M, and CPT coding. Must demonstrate efficiency, collaboration, candor, and results orientation.
· Experience in leading coding, case mix index, and clinical documentation integrity initiatives to enhance performance is preferred.
· The ability to effectively collaborate with physicians and managerial staff at all levels is necessary. Experience with 3M and Cerner is preferred.
· Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
· Expert project management skills and familiarity with coding data requirements for documentation.
· Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, and listening).
