Description

Summary: To supervise the daily operations of the Microbiology section of the laboratory, which includes Molecular and Urinalysis, to ensure uninterrupted workflow, accurate and timely results and maintain improved customer satisfaction.
 
Essential Responsibilities  
  • Under the Medical Director and the Administrative Lab Director, supervises the daily operations of assigned section to ensure quality service & customer satisfaction.
  • Institute and/or conducts procedures to ensure section compliance with all regulatory agency requirements, i.e. reference range verification, linearity studies, assay calibration requirements.
  • Responsible for section's technical competency program and for ensuring staff training & continuing education requirements. Oversees section's inventory to insure proper levels of reagents, controls, standards
  • Develops and implements new procedures/policies & updates & reviews approved section procedures.
  • Coordinates section participation in approved proficiency programs as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Reviews section event logs and with the Medical Director, establishes monitors to improve quality service. Participates in the PI program.
  • Functions as a model to promote teamwork among staff members and foster positive employee morale & is compliant with Hospital policy & regulatory requirements.
  • Oversees, supports or delegates the maintenance of the LIS database.
  • Holds regularly scheduled staff meetings and department huddles to update and inform staff.
  •  Maintains technical competency; oversees participation in formal education programs; assists Medical
  • Director in developing & instituting new programs/systems within/outside the laboratory as required.
  • Recommends & implements system changes to increase efficiency & accuracy of workflow.
  •  Provides Administrative Lab Director with pertinent information to prepare capital equipment and operating budgets. Is responsible for employee selection, performance appraisal process & personnel conflict
  • Functions as a technical consultant to staff & physicians. Responsible for technical problem resolution related to assigned section.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

  • Performs other duties as required.
 
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree (relevant science field)
* 4 years minimum job-related experience.
Preferred:
* 2 years experience in supervisory position
License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

* Medical Technologist, ASCP (or equivalent).

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
  • Knowledge of instrument troubleshooting (experience).
  • Good Language (written and verbal) skills.
