Summary:

 

The Pharmacy Technician 1 position is entry-level in pharmacy tech roles. Pharmacy Technician 1 will assist pharmacists in dispensing, delivering, and storing medications and pharmaceutical supplies. The pharmacy technician will ensure that products and services are provided in a timely, safe and cost-effective manner according to department policies, procedures, and practice standards supporting inpatient and outpatient services within Nuvance Health. Once the employee is fully nationally certified and state registered, the employee will transition to Pharm Tech 2 position.

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Handles, pulls, labels, packages, and delivers medications to patients or authorized personnel as instructed by the pharmacist. 
  2. Helps maintain medication and supply inventory. 
  3. Identifies, pulls, and disposes of expired medications as needed.
  4. Performs clerical duties such as filing, data entry, and printer management. 
  5. Maintains compliance with all state, federal, and regulatory requirements, such as completing and reviewing audits such as managing temp logs, cleaning logs, unit inspections, etc. 
  6. Manages automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) inventory by utilizing reports from the main console and troubleshooting minor technical issues. 
  7. Refills and manages expiration dates of code carts, kits, medication trays, etc. 
  8. Handles and delivers controlled medications by following all state & federal regulations and departmental policies. 
  9. Triages phone calls and transfers calls to the pharmacist for any medication-related questions. 
  10. Navigates electronic medical record (EMR) as it relates to missing medications and charges/billing. 
  11. Understands the identification, handling, and storage of hazardous medications (USP800, NIOSH, OSHA, and departmental policy). 
  12. Models and Maintains Nuvance values.
  13. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Desired: Computer skills, ability to multi-task and work independently.

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements: 

  • PTCB Certification within 6-12 months.
  • License: Registered Pharmacy Technician with NY Board of Pharmacy within 6-12 months.

  • Communicate clearly in-person / over the phone / respond to questions.
  •  Ability to comprehend information from printed sources.
  • Ability to comprehend information from electronic sources or computer screens.
