Nurse Educator position in the Medical Practice- Danbury, CT
It is a requirement to travel to all of the NY & CT Medical Practices throughout Nuvance Health when needed. 
Full time, 40 hours per week, day shifts vary Monday- Friday. 
 
Summary: The Nurse Educator is responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating and revising continuing education programs for the nursing staff. This role develops and monitors orientation, initial and ongoing competency assessment, clinical support, classroom instruction and in services to enhance clinical competence and the attainment of standards of care. The nurse educator will collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team to achieve the hospital's strategic objectives and mission. This role reports to the WCHN Administrative Director of Nursing Professional Practice and Education.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
    2. Provides and promotes service in a professional, courteous manner towards patients, visitors, and other staff members.
    3. Coordinates and implements educational/training programs for the day, evening and night shifts. Develops education action plans in collaboration with the department manager.
    4. Creates and maintains orientation schedules for preceptors and orientees and ensure communication of schedule. Reviews and discusses orientee’s progress at least weekly with orientee and department manager.
    5. Facilitates the implementation of clinical practice procedures, standards, and policies. Knowledgeable in quality improvement processes; and assists in the implementation/monitoring of performance improvement activities. Collaborates with the nurse leadership team to assess the educational needs of staff; and empowers the nursing staff to participate in professional development programs.
    6. Provides training and continuing educational programs using adult learning techniques. Promotes team building, leadership and professionalism through performance.
    7. Works closely with the preceptee/preceptor to establish and achieve goals during the new hire process.
    8. Functions as a role model to staff; mentors, coaches and counsels staff to ensure effective learning experiences. Acts as a role model in building supportive and collaborative work relationships.
    9. Ensures the design, implementation and evaluation of a cost-effective orientation process that focuses on knowledge skills and relationships.
    10. Provides training to the staff on quality trends and findings.
    11. Performs quality based audits as needed.
    12. Develops educational programs in response to quality trends.
    13. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team to develop revise and evaluate nursing standards, policy, procedures and practice.
    14. Participates in the interviewing process for new staff and makes recommendation for hiring. Provides input for staffs annual review. Assists with the completion of unit based competencies in collaboration with director and manager.
    15. Engages in nursing research and performance improvement initiatives.
    16. Trend activity, support and encourage nurses pursuing and maintaining specialty certifications.
    17. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
    18. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Required: This position requires a minimum of a formal education of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Minimum of 3 years job related. Experience with Cerner Clinical and electronic health record technology a plus. Three to five years of clinical, job related experience in education within a healthcare delivery system.  Knowledge of regulatory requirements. Excellent communication skills, computer skills including word and PowerPoint. Knowledge of adult learning principle. Ability to ensure that educational activities are implemented and evaluated. NY & CT RN License. 
Minimum Experience: three years
Desired: CPR/ BLS instructor certification within one year. Nursing Board Certification. Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD). PALS instructor certification. 
 
Salary Range: $45.29-$84.11 Hourly, commensurate with experience
