Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician 2 will assist pharmacists in the formulation, preparation, dispensing, delivery and storage of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. The pharmacy technician will ensure that products and services are provided in timely, safe and cost-effective manner according to department policies, procedures, and practice standards supporting both inpatient and outpatient services within Nuvance Health.
Responsibilities:
- Handles, pulls, labels, packages, compounds, and delivers medications to patient or authorized personnel as instructed by pharmacist.
- Helps maintain medication and supply inventory.
- Identifies, pulls, and disposes of expired medications as needed.
- Performs clerical duties such as filing, data entry, printer management.
- Maintains compliance with all state, federal, and regulatory requirements, such as completes and reviews audits such as manages temp logs, cleans logs, unit inspections, etc.
- Manages automated dispensing cabinets (ADC) inventory by utilizing reports from main console and troubleshooting minor technical issues.
- Refills and manages expiration dates of code carts, kits, medication trays etc.
- Handles and delivers controlled medications by following all state & federal regulations and departmental policies.
- Triages phone calls and transfers calls to pharmacist for any medication related questions.
- Navigates electronic medical record (EMR) as it relates to missing medications and charges/billing.
- Understands the identification, handling and storage of hazardous medications (USP800, NIOSH, OSHA, and departmental policy).
- Complies with all USP 795 and USP 797 requirements in the compounding of sterile and nonsterile products by following all departmental policies & procedures involving technique, training, testing, and personal hygiene.
- Maintains and Models Nuvance Health Values.
- Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as required.

Education Skills Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum Experience: None for Tech I, Experience necessary for Tech 2 position
- PTCB Certification within 6 months
- License: Registered Pharmacy Technician
- Within 30 days with CT Department of Consumer Protection for those working in CT
- Within in 6 months with NY Board of Pharmacy for those working in NY
- Desired: Pharmacy Technician experience, Computer skills, ability to multi-task and work independently
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Significant occupational risk
Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
