Description

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant works under the direction and supervision of the registered Occupational Therapist in the home environment practice setting to administer therapy treatments and procedures to help patients recover, develop or improve skills needed for daily living. The agency ensures that a qualified Occupational Therapist is always accessible by telecommunications to the COTA at all times while the COTA is treating patients.

Responsibilities:

 

1. May perform occupational therapy procedures and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the supervising Occupational Therapist. 

2. Documents visits and completes documentation within 24 hours of visit and within agency guidelines.

3. The performance of the delegated functions by the COTA must be consistent with safe, legal occupational therapy practice. 

4. Reviews and provides input to goals set in the plan of care to observe if goals are being met or may suggest to the licensed Occupational Therapist the need for revisions when goals are not being met. 

5. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. 

6. Provides patient/family education and training.

7. Participates in the agency quality assurance and performance improvement program.

8. Maintains and Models Nuvance Health Foundational Values.

9. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.

10. Performs other duties as required. 

 

 

Other Information:

 

Minimum Experience: one year 

Must have a current driver's license and motor vehicle in good working condition.

 

 

Working Conditions:

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Occupational: Some occupational risk

Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force

Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
