RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS

1. Nutrition Assessment is conducted using validated tools, the five domains of nutrition assessment, and comparative standards as documented in the International Dietetics and Nutrition Terminology Reference Manual: Standardized Language for the Nutrition Care Process (IDNT). Nutrition Assessment is an ongoing, dynamic process that involves not only initial data collection, but also reassessment and analysis of patient/client or community needs. It provides the foundation for nutrition diagnosis.

2. The Registered Dietitian identifies and labels specific problem(s) that the registered dietitian is responsible for treating. The nutrition diagnosis demonstrates a link to determining goals for outcomes, selecting appropriate interventions, and tracking progress in attaining expected outcomes. Diagnosing nutrition problems is the responsibility of the RD.

3. The Registered Dietitian identifies and implements appropriate, purposefully planned actions designed with the intent of changing a nutrition- related behavior, risk factor, environmental condition or aspect of health status for an individual, target group or the community at large.

4. The Registered Dietitian (RD) monitors and evaluates indicators and outcomes data directly related to the nutrition diagnosis, goals, and intervention strategies to determine the progress made in achieving desired outcomes of nutrition care and whether planned interventions should be continued or revised.

5. Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and hospital personnel as defined in the philosophy of Health-quest

6. The Registered Dietitian effectively applies knowledge and communicate with others. Registered Dietitians work with and through others (ie: dietetic technician, registered (DTRs), support personnel, nurses, administrators, quality and safety officers) to achieve common goals by effective sharing and application of their unique knowledge and skills in food, human nutrition, and management services.

7. The registered dietitian engages in lifelong learning. The Registered Dietitian (RD) demonstrates competence in and accepts accountability and responsibility for ensuring safety and quality in the services provided.
