Summary:

This position is responsible for the direct management of staff, projects and service level agreements related to the Laboratory IT Services and certain ancillary applications. Works with Nuvance Health Leadership team to meet the information and workflow needs of the Nuvance Health clinical facilities, assuring support of software and hardware integration as well as facilitating system continuity. Evaluates plans, implements and supports the deployment of application solutions for, General lab, Anatomic Pathology and Microbiology. As part of this, the position will be responsible to manage the staff and processes to ensure success related to the above expectations. Other required responsibilities include the management of assigned projects from initiation through support and maintenance. Works closely with Lab leaders and IT staff to gather and evaluate business requirements for IT applications, manage to the agreed upon expectations and comply with the organizations Service Level Agreement (SLA).

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee day-to-day operations within span of control, resolving problems as necessary, and ensuring that operations are efficient, compliant, safe, and of the highest possible quality.  Optimize management structures and workflows within span of control to continually improve quality and efficiency.
2. Act as liaison between the Laboratory department and the Information Technology department to resolve problems and facilitate communication.
3. Implements modifications to the clinical applications as requested by users or required by vendors, analyzing operational impacts within the departments.
4. Responsible for ensuring that the related vendors are communicating properly with staff, providing support of the applications, and where needed increasing the functionality of the applications to support expected operational workflows and requested functionality.
5. Assists in understanding data flow and evaluating operational processes for Process and Performance Improvement efforts and efficient information technology solutions
6. Responsible for the system functionality build and testing of regulatory expectations
7. Supports Lab department�s information needs by designing reports, coordinating data mining through other systems and/or working with vendors for system modifications.
8. Provides user training and documents system design, as required.
9. Prepares and delivers employee performance reviews.
10. Responsible for employee matters, which include staff selection, management and development ensuring adequate numbers of qualified employees to provide safe, effective, and efficient services in accordance with established standards and productivity levels.
11. Works with System Administrators, and Analysts to evaluate new projects to determine scope and priority.  Coordinates the design, development and implementation of authorized projects.
12. Acts as the IT subject matter expert for AP and Microbiology and serves as primary liaison between contracted AP vendor and Microbiology Laboratory users.
13. Directly and indirectly (through use of other lab system admins) responsible for complete maintenance of lab, AP and Microbiology applications by entering new tests into the Co-Path/Cerner AP and LIS systems. Completes testing to assure accuracy of new test ordering, resulting, reporting and billing.
14. Works with Nuvance Health staff and direct reports to make sure the SLAs established are met.
15. Performs other duties as required.

Other Information:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field required.
  • Masters degree in Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field preferred.
  • REQUIRED- Laboratory Information Systems Experience or Laboratory Tech experience required.
  • Two (2) years in a supervisory role demonstrating the ability to effectively lead a team.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • An understanding of analytical processes, along with demonstrated proficient computer skills related to spreadsheet use, plus database and query abilities.
  • Must have organizational and planning skills including the ability to adapt to frequent interruptions, prioritize tasks, maintain performance under pressure, and anticipate the needs of others.
  • Must be willing to travel.  It is necessary to attend vendor meetings, training and/or User Group Conferences.
  •  Prior experience of at least two (2) years experience with the installation of a clinical order entry or clinical documentation system, particularly the Cerner Millennium products, preferred.
