Summary:
Under supervision of the Endoscopy Nurse Manager and charge nurse, provides individualized, goal directed care to patients and families undergoing GI / Bronch procedures. Provides technical assistance to physicians performing endoscopic procedures for inpatients and outpatients. Maintains inventory system for endoscopic equipment and accessories.
Responsibilities:
Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment necessary for each individual endoscopic procedure as outlined in the Endoscopic Preference Plans. Assists physicians with all types of Endoscopic procedures using universal precautions. Expert at use of equipment and accessories. Follows departmental procedures in: scrubbing, hand drying, gowning, gloving and observing for contamination and/or breaks in technique. Demonstrates at all times constant vigil for maintenance of the field. Appropriately processes all types of lab specimens.
Follows aseptic techniques when opening sterile supplies and setting up procedures. Discards any contaminated supplies immediately according to established written procedures. Assists other members of the team to clean and prepare rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning; restocks supplies when necessary and organizes effectively for end of case clean-up.
Performs chemical and bacteriological monitoring. Differentiates sterilization/disinfection methods for special equipment and instruments necessary for specific endoscopic procedures. Maintains Quality Assurance log. Sets up table with instruments, cautery, suction, stent and solutions needed for the procedure and maintains an orderly instrument table and/or Mayo tray.
Cleans and disinfects Endoscopes and accessories. Maintains patient's safety by applying the principles of body alignment and attaches additional equipment on the table according to established procedures. Displays dexterity in passing of instruments, snares, biopsy, forceps and dilators, as requested, in such a manner that the endoscopist need not divert attention from the procedural field. Able to hold scopes and guidewires, suction, cut sutures as needed.
Checks assigned endoscopy equipment daily to ensure proper functioning; maintains an awareness of special maintenance procedures; promptly reports any inoperative equipment to the Nurse Manager; inspects the department regularly for proper equipment functions. Prepares and knows the specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for endoscopic procedures.
Assists in the preparation of conscious sedation monitoring. Responsible for providing adequate supplies, medications, linens, etc. to all procedure rooms and mobile carts as required. Endoscopy Trains and precepts new employees and participates in educational activities and total quality management.
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. Compliance & Other Duties. Criteria B: Performs other duties as assigned.

Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT
Required: This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma and minimum of one-year job-related experience. CPR. Must be eligible to obtain required certification or CBSPD or IAHCSMM no later than 2 years after hire.
Desired: Knowledge of infection control procedures. School of Surgical Technology and special procedure, and/or Endoscopy experience required. CPR certified.
Salary Range: $18.97 - $23.00 Hourly
