Description

Summary:

The Blood Bank Lead Technologist supports the Technical Specialist in the performance of tasks that enhance the operations of the section and performs the duties of the Technical Specialist in his/her absence.

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Performs the duties of a Medical Technologist 2.
  2. Assists Technical Specialist with the implementation of new procedures and policies & monitors to assure a safe environment for employees & increase customer satisfaction.
  3. Collaborates with the Technical Specialist in coordinating the proficiency testing program to ensure that all testing is registered, analyzed, reviewed and submitted to meet established deadlines.
  4. Assists Technical Specialist to ensure compliance with all regulatory agency requirements and all Hospital & Laboratory Compliance policies & procedures.
  5. Assists Technical Specialist with assessing staff annual competency and provides input for annual performance review.
  6. Assists with daily bench assignments and oversight of the QC program.
  7. Communicates events as they occur and completes necessary documentation for appropriate follow-up.
  8. Recommends system changes to increase efficiency and accuracy of workflow & ensure daily operational efficiencies.
  9. Performs test and/or system validations under the supervision of the Technical Specialist and Medical Director
  10. Helps to maintain the section in a constant state of inspection readiness and participates in regulatory inspections as needed.
  11. Promotes teamwork among staff members and fosters positive employee morale & is compliant with Hospital policy & regulatory requirements.
  12. Performs the duties of the Technical Specialist in her/his absence.
  13. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

  16. Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.

Other Information:

 

  • Desired: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) preferred or eligible.

Working Conditions:

Manual: Some manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Occupational: Some occupational risk

Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force

Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
